Walter Laverne Boyd was born on December 21, 1954 to the late Inez Boyd and Walter Sheffield. He was raised in Live Oak, Florida by his maternal grandparents, the late Matthew and Thelma Boyd. He attended the Suwannee County Public Schools. Walter was cherished and loved by his family for his infectious personality and his zest for life.

Walter transitioned from this life on August 24, 2019 following a prolonged illness. He leaves to cherish his memory, four beloved children: Andre Sheffield of Lake Butler, Florida; Walter Boyd Jr., of Tampa, Florida; Monique and Tamika Hamilton of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Five grandchildren: Mikayla Boyd, Sy'nia Boyd, Valencia Davis, Donell Davis, and Malik Poacher. Five brothers: Edward Bellenger(Linda) of Orlando, FLorida; Burdis Boyd(Sharon) both of Daytona, Florida; Gary Boyd(Linda), John Luvell Boyd of St. Petersburg, Florida.  One sister: Anita Troy of Valdosta, Georgia. One great aunt: Frankie Lee Graham of St. Petersburg, Florida. Two aunts: Leatha Boyd of Lake City, Florida and Mary Boyd of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. A host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and sorrowing friends including a special friend and classmate, Alonza Philmore.

He is preceded in death by his parents Inez Boyd and Walter Sheffield, two brothers; Walter Larell Sheffield and Vernon Boyd, two sisters; Phyllis Boyd and Jonitha Diane Mitchell.
