While waiting for a bus, she was greeted by a man named Jonathan Smith who offered her a ride. She said,"I don't take rides from strangers." He said,"I don't usually pick up strangers." They were married on June 15, 1964 (Two years after that first meeting). They had one child, Jonathan Smith Jr and shared 51 years of union. Josephine dedicated her life and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on February 1, 1976. Excited to share her newfound love for the truth, Josephine prompted many sisters; to join her on the boardwalk or train station, to preach to all who would listen. Rising well before 6 AM and even sacrificing her lunch break to declare the good news. Josephine always had a zealous pioneer spirit. Upon her retirement, she and her family settled in Live Oak, Florida, for the past 24 years where she continued her faith and service at her local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Josephine was known for her kindness and hospitality. Never allowing anyone to leave her home empty-handed. Her homemade cuisine was something to cherish: from her famous cheesecakes to her delicious peach-ginger tea. She also had a passion for gardening; and her house was surrounded inside and out with colorful flowers and plants thoughtout the year. She will be greatly missed by all. Josephine was proceeded in death of her parents, William and Viola Dove. Her brother, William Dove Jr. and her husband, Jonathan Smith Sr. She leaves her cherished memories to: her son, Jonathan Smith Jr. (Lisa), her sisters; Erma Adams, Ernestine Truss, Bessie Gilmore, Mamie Hayman, and brother Charles Dove. Grandchildren: Keisha, Javere, and Jalesa Smith. Also her sister friends, Juanita Felder, Anita Clark, Susan-Gail Roberts and Dee Jennings. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, special friends and adopted children and grandchildren.
